Cox Technic

Cox Technic

Developed by Dr. James M. Cox, the Cox Technic Flexion Distraction and Decompression method is a gentle, non-force chiropractic approach used by nearly two-thirds of chiropractors. It combines chiropractic and osteopathic principles to offer a non-surgical solution for back, neck, arm, and leg pain—especially in cases involving disc herniation and spinal stenosis. This technique gently stretches the spine to relieve pressure, increase disc space, and improve nerve function, helping reduce pain and restore mobility. It also enhances circulation and nutrient flow to aid disc healing and regeneration. Treatment is performed on a specialized flexion-distraction table that allows controlled spinal traction, improving alignment, motion, and overall comfort for lasting relief.
Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft tissue injuries occur when muscles, tendons, or ligaments are damaged—whether from a single incident or repetitive strain. During healing, the body forms scar tissue to protect and stabilize the injured area. While this is helpful initially, excess scar tissue can restrict movement, weaken muscles, and cause pain by irritating surrounding tissues. Over time, this can lead to issues like frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel, or nerve entrapment. The good news: these problems can often be corrected non-surgically. At Germantown Chiropractic, we use Active Release Technique (ART), Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), Functional Movement Rock Tape (FMT), and rehabilitative exercises to restore proper function and relieve pain.
Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy

Mobilizing a joint without releasing the musculature that moves that joint is like fighting an uphill battle. Tight, shortened muscles will not allow continued healthy movement in the joint and the joint will become restricted again. As part of the Cox Technic, spinal musculature is mobilized, trigger points are released, and muscle tone imbalances are addressed. However, occasionally, additional myofascial release (massage/muscle work) is required in supporting areas of the body, such as the hips, legs, shoulders, arms, etc. When additional time and work is required in these areas, it is considered an additional service – manual therapy.
Active Release Technique (ART)

Active Release Technique (ART)

ART is a protocol-based soft tissue technique which provides a way to assess and treat soft tissues such as tendons, nerves, ligaments, and muscles. This approach is not physiotherapy, massage, or chiropractic therapy. ART can address scar tissue formation using a patented manual therapy which assists the body’s specific structure in proper relative movement between each structure.
IASTM

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

(IASTM), more commonly known as “scraping,” came from the ancient Chinese practice of Gua Sha (“Gua” = scrape, “Sha” = sand). This technique uses a dull-edged instrument to gently scrape the skin, relaxing stiff muscles and encouraging healing. It can produce a light bumpy sensation at first that decreases as the tissues recover.
Functional Movement Rock Tape (FMT)

Functional Movement Rock Tape (FMT)

Ever wonder why professional athletes wear colorful tape on their bodies? It’s not for style—it’s for performance. This cotton and nylon tape with medical-grade adhesive provides muscle support, improves circulation, and reduces strain. It can stabilize injuries like rolled ankles, lessen inflammation, and retrain muscles for proper function. Hypoallergenic and water-resistant, it’s perfect for athletes and active lifestyles.
