Most physical medicine doctors will perform only standard orthopedic tests during an exam. This is important to help find the correct diagnosis. But what if the problem is more vague, or what if the problems doesn’t involve pain at all? What if the patient is looking only to improve performance?
Functional Movement Screen (FMS) was developed to help screen individuals for dysfunctional movement patterns. This helps us find problems before they cause pain or is limiting the ability to improve in performance. The FMS aims to identify imbalances in mobility, stability, and coordination during specific fundamental movements. Once these deficiencies have been identified through the FMS, a program of corrective exercises, manipulation, or other therapy is then developed.
